Checked Baggage


  • This is the luggage that's transported in the hold of the aeroplane. It is also known as Hold Baggage
  • The maximum weight and standard dimensions are as follows:
    • 23 Kg
    • 158 cm (sum of the length, width and depth)
  • The handles, pockets and wheels are included in these dimensions.
  • Excess Baggage refers to any additional item or excess weight of an item up to a maximum of 32 kg per item, after paying the corresponding fees.
  • No item can weigh more than 32 kg. If you exceed this limit, the additional amount must be packed into a new bag, subject to the payment of the corresponding excess.
  • When the ticket fare and the route permits it, extra baggage can be purchased online (in our web or Call Centre) or Air Europa ticket offices in the airport

Check the information regarding your baggage allowance based on the route you are taking for long-haul flights whose origin or destination is abroad.


  • Holders of Air Europa SUMA Silver, Gold or Platinum, or SkyTeam Elite or Elite Plus, have the right to an additional item of baggage.
  • Children over the age of 2 have the right to the same baggage allowance as adult passengers.
  • Babies (under the age of 2) only have the right to check in 1 item of 10kg.
  • For babies under the age of 2, checking in bags between 10kg and 23kg will entail a cost of 30 EUR / 30 GBP / 30 USD / 30 CHF. If they are between 23kg and 32 kg, the cost will be 60 EUR / 60 GBP / 60 USD / 60 CHF.
  • The acceptance of additional baggage on the flight is subject to space.
  • Checked-in additional baggage is non-refundable.
  • Prices subjects to possible surcharges for taxes in certain countries.
  • Extra baggage is only permitted for flights operated by Air Europa. If you have a connecting flight or if your flight code is shared with another airline, check the baggage allowance set by the operating company, given that it can be different for each. Depending on agreements between companies, in some cases it won't be possible to check in luggage right up to your end destination.
  • For LITE FARES only: for routes operated by the aeroplane type ATR, contracting extra baggage is limited to 1 addition suitcase. The rest of the fares do not permit the contracting of 1 additional item.
  • The luggage regulations apply per leg of the journey.
  • Appliances will not be accepted as checked-in baggage. They will only be allowed in your hand luggage if the size and weight of the item allow so. If this is not the case, they may be allowed as bulky cabin baggage (CBBG) occupying a seat (subject to the available price at the time of application). They must comply with the dimensions allowed for them to be transported in the cabin and, in the event of these being exceeded, must be transported as air freight.

Hand Baggage

Hand baggage is the luggage that the passenger can bring into the aircraft cabin.

  • The maximum weight and standard dimensions are as follows:
  • 55 cm. x 35 cm. x 25 cm (the sum of the three dimensions must not exceed 115cm)
  • The handles, pockets and wheels are included in these dimensions.

* For the ATR fleet, the maximum hand baggage allowance is 8kg with the following dimensions: 55x35x20


As well as a suitcase each passenger may carry one item from the following list:

  • A handbag,
  • a laptop,
  • a Tablet.

This additional item must fit under the seat in front of you:



  • The transport of liquids in hand luggage (drinks, cologne, creams, gels, etc.) is restricted: only containers with a maximum content of 100 mililitres are allowed.
  • Passengers must put these containers in a self-sealing transparent plastic bag (20 cm x 20 cm approximately) which is separate and available for inspection.
  • Cada pasajero puede llevar indistintamente en su equipaje facturado o en su equipaje de mano hasta 2 kg ó 2 litros de gel desinfectante con base de alcohol.
  • La cantidad neta de cada artículo individual que componen estos 2 kg ó 2 litros, no puede exceder de 0,5 kg ó 0,5 litros.
  • No se permite gel desinfectante con un volumen de alcohol superior al 70%
  • El límite para resto de líquidos y geles distintos del gel desinfectante con base de alcohol se mantiene en 100 mililitros.

Disinfectant gel (Departures from Spain)

  • Each passenger may carry up to 2 kg or 2 litres of alcohol-based disinfectant gel in their checked baggage or in their hand baggage.
  • The net amount of each individual item that makes up this 2 kg or 2 liters, may not exceed 0.5 kg or 0.5 liters.
  • Disinfectant gel with an alcohol volume of more than 70% is not allowed
  • The limit for all other liquids and gels other than alcohol-based disinfectant gel remains at 100 millilitres.

Please remember:

  • Hand luggage will be checked at check-in and at the boarding gate. If the measurements or weight of your luggage exceed the limits allowed, your suitcase will not be accepted as hand luggage.
  • Your suitcase must be light enough for you to store it easily in the overhead locker.
  • In the interest of everybody's comfort, suitcases which do not comply with these requirements must travel in the hold with a possible additional charge. This measure is intended to improve both your personal safety and that of other passengers, as well as your comfort during the flight, given that the capacity of the overhead lockers is limited.
  • Because of space limitations in the cabin luggage lockers, even if your luggage complies with the limits on size and weight, our staff may consider it necessary to store it in the hold at no extra cost to the passenger.


  • Babies up to 2 years old can carry as hand luggage a bag with the food, drink and other items they will need during the flight. Children aged over 2 have the same luggage allowance as adults. For more information please see our section on minors.
  • Wheelchairs for passengers with reduced mobility and prams for babies must be checked in and carried in the hold of the plane, although passengers may use them during boarding until they reach the plane, where they should hand them over to the company's staff to be stowed in the hold.
  • Some planes in our fleet used for short and medium haul flights (for example, ATR and Embraer E145) are smaller, and it may not be possible for you to keep your hand luggage in the cabin. If this should be the case, your hand luggage will travel in the hold and will be returned to you when you disembark at your destination.

We recommend you to consult the list of items which are not allowed in hand luggage and in luggage carried in the hold.


Special Baggage

Some items may be transported on the plane under special conditions, depending on space and the weight available on boarding. Acceptance is exclusively at the discretion of the crew.

Bulky cabin baggage

Bulky baggage must comply with the maximum measurements allowed in the cabin. This will be charged the same as the cost of a seat. If the measurements are exceeded, this luggage must be carried as air freight.          

Bulky luggage in the hold

This is not considered free check-in baggage and the usual 32 kg per item limit does not apply. The price for such items is €150.


Sporting equipment is subject to the same conditions as check-in luggage. However, an additional charge of €75 per flight applies in some specific cases. In these cases, if the weight of the equipment exceeds the limit, the passenger must pay the excess weight charge. 


Those that are not included are subject to an additional charge of €75 per flight.


The following items are not permitted on flights operated by ATR or E145 planes or similar: hang gliders or paragliders, poles, or other bulky (length+width+height over 158 cm) sports equipment/baggage.


By way of exception, a limited number of surfboards will be allowed on flights between the different Canary Islands subject to availability for each flight and upon request to our Customer Service department.

Fishing equipment +info

- Fishing equipment consists of 2 rods, 1 reel, 1 net for keeping fish, 1 pair of fishing waders and one tackle box.
- Your fishing equipment is considered one item of standard hold baggage, and the transport thereof is included free-of-charge in the price of the ticket.
If the weight or number of items exceed the weight/items/dimensions allowed under your baggage allowance, the passenger must pay the excess weight charge.

Golf equipment +info

- Golf equipment consists of 1 golf bag containing golf rods, 1 pair of golf shoes.
- Your golf equipment (bag containing clubs and shoes) is considered as a standard checked baggage item and is included at no extra charge in your baggage allowance .
- If the weight or number of pieces exceeds the baggage allowance permitted, passenger must pay for excess baggage.

Skiing equipment (snow and water)

- Alpine skiing: a pair of snow skis, a pair of sticks and a pair of ski boots
- Snowboarding: a snowboard and a pair of boots
- Water skiing: a pair of standard water skis or one slalom water ski.
- Skiing equipment is considered one item of standard hold baggage, and the transport thereof is included free-of-charge in the price of the ticket, provided that their dimensions do not exceed the permitted 158 cm.
If the ski equipment exceeds the size/weight/pieces in the passenger's allowance, a fee must be paid for special baggage in the hold, excess weight or additional pieces of luggage.

Musical instruments under 115 cm (length, height and width)

Bicycles +info

Each bicycle must be transported individually (including bike trailers or accessories of a similar size). In order to be accepted, the passenger must present the bicycle at check-in: *With the handlebar turned lengthways; *With its pedals removed; *With its extensible parts removed or covered; *With its tyres deflated (the front wheel removed and attached to the frame); *Suitably packaged in a bag or case.

Scuba diving equipment +info

Scuba equipment may consist of a wetsuit, jacket, socks, mask, flippers, flashlight, nets, knife, 1 empty oxygen bottle and 1 regulator.


Hunting and professional weapons +info

Members of the state security forces stating they are travelling on official business or in transit will not be charged.

Surfing equipment +info

The baggage dimensions must be a maximum of 250cm (height x length x depth), except for flights ATR which have maximum dimensions of 158cm.
- Windsurfing: The equipment may consist of a surf board, mast, sail and boom.
- Surfing: A surfboard.
- Kitesurfing: A kite or parachute, a paddle and a board.

Musical Instruments over 115 cm may be transported in the hold paying a supplement of €150 or on a seat in the cabin paying the fare for the additional seat

Check measurements of special baggage

  • When an object cannot be placed in the luggage compartments or under the seat due its size or weight and the passenger wants to keep it with them, it may be transported in one or more seats.


    Such luggage may not exceed 75 kg (165 lb) per seat reserved, or the following measurements.


    An extra seat must be paid for when transporting such luggage.

Limitation of Liability

Checking-in fragile, perishable and valuable items

When checking-in delicate, fragile or valuable items (glassware, crafts, works of art and other valuables) that may be damaged in transit, we recommend you complete a declaration of value. Air Europa accepts no liability for any damage that may occur to fragile objects

Baggage incidents

In the event of loss, damage or delay in delivery of checked baggage, go to the incidents desk immediately, before leaving the baggage reclaim hall. They will give you the information you need and provide you with a Baggage Claim Form (BCF), which is essential for resolving the problem.


If a BCF is not completed, the company accepts no responsibility for the baggage in accordance with the provisions of art. 31.1 of the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air, signed in Montreal on 28 May 1999, and Art. 3.1 of Regulation (EC) No 2027/97 of 9 October 1997.

Minor damage to baggage

The airline accepts no responsibility for minor damage that might be caused by the nature of, or problems relating to, the flight. You can help prevent such damage by packing your bags well and following the manufacturer's weight and capacity recommendations.

Declaration of Value

Before checking-in fragile, perishable or valuable luggage, we recommend you complete a special declaration of value.

Check-in time

You must report to the company's check-in desk at least 2 hours before the departure of your flight.

Documents needed

  • Identity document (ID card (DNI) or passport).
  • Ticket.
  • Duly completed customs declaration form (also  available at the company's offices at the airport).

Opening of baggage

Before checking-in, you must open your baggage in the presence of a designated company employee to inspect the condition of items declared to be of special value. You must then close your baggage and fasten it with a key, padlock or combination lock.

Declaration limits

Baggage checked-in with a special declaration of value must have a value in excess of 1131 SDRs (special drawing rights), not exceeding €4000


This service requires payment of 15% of the special value declared.


The special declaration of value is only valid on Air Europa flights. If your journey involves connections with other companies, you must collect your luggage after the flight operated by Air Europa.

Luggage Incidents

If you have experienced an incident with your luggage please accept our apologies. We regret any inconvenience caused.

1 - To process luggage incidents correctly

  • Fill in a Property Irregularity Report.
    For LUGGAGE claims, it is necessary to go to the Air Europa counter in the airport arrivals hall to inform us of the incident and complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) before leaving the airport.
  • Keep your original flight documentation.
    Do not forget to keep your original documentation (ticket, luggage check-in labels and boarding passes, as well as any invoices for essential items that are directly related with the incident in the event of a delay in the luggage arriving) as the company may need to see these.
  • Limited liability.
    Please note that all airlines have limited liability, therefore you may have greater cover if you have travel, business, domestic or all risks insurance.
  • If you wish to make a claim.
    Please note that the PIR completed at the airport is an incident report and does not represent an admission of liability. If you wish to proceed with a claim please send the documentation requested by our Luggage Service as soon as possible, within the periods established on the ticket, i.e. within 21 days of the incident in the event of delay or loss, and 7 days in the event of damage.

2 - For DELAY OR LOST of luggage

If your luggage has been DELAYED from this moment on, we will do our utmost to locate and deliver it to the address you have provided for that purpose. Delivery, however, may be subject to the customs of the country and their presence at the airport may be required by the authorities.

3 - In the event of DAMAGE to the luggage

In the event of DAMAGE to the luggage. For your convenience, we would like to inform you that you can arrange the repair of your luggage inside or outside Spain regardless of the location where the incident took place, but remember that in both cases there is a limit period of 7 days from the date of incidence to communicate with the company.(In the contacts below indicated).


All airlines have a limited liability, so you would have better coverage if you have a travel, business, or home insurance policy; or a fully comprehensive insurance.


For your own benefit, please remember:

  • You must report the incidence before leaving the airport.
  • Personnel of the airport must be informed of any additional damage your baggage may have suffered, because once you leave the baggage delivery area, the airline is exempt of any liability and claims will not be accepted.
  • You must also retain all documentation of the flight and damage baggage because it will be required for the arrangements that must be made.

Go to the counter for the Company's Luggage Service at the destination airport, where our staff will tell you whether your item has been found.

You can also contact the airport over the phone or by email, to find out whether your item has been found and how you can collect it.

If you have forgotten your passport or identity document, in the aeroplane or in the airport, it will be handed over to immigration services, local police or the competent bodies in the destination airport.
